New Love Bird Jewellery

Some new necklace designs I have just made...

Thursday, 29 April 2010

This is a brooch I completed recently as a special one off commission.

The customer requested a piece which incorporated the images of her grand children into a brooch.

Rather daunted by the request initially I carefully saw-pierced out the designs of the children in silhouette from silver. These were then soldered onto a brass background & the whole piece was then oxidised.

I have had feedback from the customer who was thrilled with the result!

Magic Magnolia flowers

Just spotted these beautiful Magnolia flowers in the Wholehealth garden at The Fold....
I should really be getting ready for the Spring Garden Show next week at Malvern not taking pictures of flowers!

Allotment at last!

Today Tim & I have spent the whole day at the allotment. We were planning to go last weekend but I wasn't well enough with my darn tooth!

It was all looking a little overgrown sadly but after much hard work & several energy giving donuts...we have managed to tidy quite a few of the plots.

Also we have sown lots of seeds....runner beans, dwarf beans, broad beans, leeks, courgettes, butternut squash & sunflowers! Just need them all to grow now.... next time we have our potatoes & onions to plant out but the soil needs more work first!!

Studio facelift

Yesterday Roy and me got the paintbrushes out & set to work on brightening up the studios.
They hadn't been touched since I moved in back in 2003 so were looking a little drab....

The next project is to revamp the 'flowerbed at the front which has become rather tatty as nobody seems to look after it...Oh & I need to clean my windows & change the display next week! My 'little' fir trees have also outgrown the space so I might look for an alternative...maybe at the Spring Garden show?

We've started to let the cats outside...
Although I returned home yesterday to find that 'somebody' (most likely to be Timmy has he had worked out how to unlock the flap on Sunday!) had destroyed the cat flap & all three of them were sunning themselves in the garden! With all this lovely weather it's nice that they can now go outside & enjoy it. Timmy takes great delight in digging holes everywhere.

Back in studio...

Sorry I've been away from the studio for a few days with nasty wisdom teeth infection!

Although I'm still not my usual self (whatever that is!!?) I am back at work....

Hope to be fully with it soon????

Leafy pictures

These are my latest pictures inspired by the large metalwork commission with the leaf forms made recently. I like the way the pieces extend over the edges of the blocks. It's a little tricky to attach 2 separate pieces but I will work out a method with practice!

I'll take these to the Cheltenham show on Saturday & see what the reaction is?

Cheltenham Art Market this Saturday

Hoping the weather holds for Saturday 17th as I'll be showing at the
Arts Market once again in Cheltenham.
It's a lovely event in the centre with stalls along the Promenade.

Open from 9am until 5pm.
I'll be exhibiting a range of work including the latest panels & new jewellery additions.
Looking forward to a busy day fingers crossed xx
The Fold studio will be open as usual as mum is going to be there.

Metalwork Panels

I've completed 3 panels this week in preparation for the forthcoming events I have booked in April & May. I haven't made a long verdigris panel before but I think this works nicely. I now need to make some more block pictures, jewellery & cards!!!

I've just had the delivery of the latest badges.
The animal alphabet ones have gone really well so I thought
I'd try some other designs out....
The most popular of the previous designs so far
are owls, dogs, mice! I think the sheep may take over...?

I made some cute owls yesterday afternoon!
The eyes have etched designs then I've punched & stamped patterns on the bodies & wings.
Each one is slightly different. The colours are from the heat when soldering then I've varnished them to seal the surface. They are approx 7cm tall.

This one is my favourite so I might keep him myself!

More mobile figures......

Had a look in my pictures on the computer...found quite a few images of the mobiles I've made in the past few years.

Fisherman mobile

It was Roy Dutton's birthday on Monday so I made him one of my mobiles for a prezzie. He's made from copper, brass & silver which has been given a bronzed finish. He measures approx. 20cm tall.

I used to make lots of these for galleries a few years ago...including gardeners, jesters, fairy godmothers, shoppers, mermaids etc. I'll dig out some photos to show you....

I enjoyed making Mr Fisherman with his very big fish!!

Had to go to Rugby last night to collect Tim's new car (again!) - hopefully OK this time?
On route we discovered these wonderful life size donkey sculptures.
It was raining but I quickly took these pictures as fortunately I had my camera with me.
As far as I understand they are a memorial to somebody. What a lovely idea....
I'm not sure who has made them? But I think they are really a joy.
The flowers really add to the effect - a little oasis in a build up area.
