Studio closed

Just to let you know....
my studio will be closed this Saturday 3rd July as The Fold has a Blues Fest taking place.
The stage is right next to my studio so I feel it is not possible to open really.

However normal opening will resume next week!

I'm going to use my very rare Saturday off to do something nice.... I'm thinking of visiting the Robert Race exhibition at Brewery Arts in Cirencester.....I'll let you know if I do!

The cats have been enjoying the lovely weather in the garden...

Site Festival 2010

On Sunday we visited some of the artists studios & venues in and around Stroud as part of the Site Festival. We had not been to Stroud before so thought it was a great opportunity to explore! I think we will have to return on a weekday though as none of the galleries were open...there was a fab looking antique shop too with lots of retro looking ceramics & glass in the window!

This was a applied to a wall on one of the main streets...

This is the work of Alison Cockcroft - sculpture & collage.
I really enjoyed meeting her & seeing the work in Stroud Valleys Artspace.
The central metal sculpture came home with us!

One of the other textile artists in SVA was Francesca Chalk. We came away with several of her lovely birdie test piece screen prints which I intend to frame.

This we found in the shopping centre!
A ceramic wall mural depicting the buildings of Stroud.
I really like the textures....

In 2008/9 I was lucky enough to be involved in an 'altered book' project with several other artists - check out the old posts.
We started again in January this year. The only difference this time is you only have to complete 2 pages of the book. You can do more if you desire and or time allows. I've struggled on the time front for some reason however these are 2 of my recent 'alterations'....

On these pages I have used some lino cuts I did a while ago.

The giant rabbit is a photocopy on acetate of one of my bunny brooches.

The 'book' has actually been created from an old map - a lovely idea!

June/July 2010

I did scan the pages from the 1st book (which will be returned to me in Feb 2011) - when I have located these images I'll post them on the blog!

Now I'm getting ready for the next retail event I'm doing this weekend!

Off to Cheltenham again to show at the Arts Market along The Promenade. This event is proving to be well worth while & now the markets are happening almost every month hopefully a following will build up. I'm not able to show in July as the dates clash with Art in Action but will be back again on August 21st. The Fold studio is open as usual on Saturday.

If you haven't had time to get that special Father's Day (Sunday 20th June!) gift I shall have a selection of cards & cufflinks available at both the studio & the Arts Market.

The Contemporary Craft Fair at Bovey Tracey

I've returned from Devon after a successful show at The Contemporary Craft Fair in Bovey Tracey. The weather stayed dry & the visitor numbers were certainly high. The standard of work was so high it must have been very difficult for customers to decide where to make their purchases!

This show provides a 'shell scheme' for displaying your work which makes it much easier to show the larger scale wall hangings & block pictures.

I had to restrain myself from spending too much...however as our stand was next to the lovely ceramics of Rosanna Martin who was featured on the catalogue & poster for the show I was tempted by a super little black & red version!

Just loading the car for the trip down to Devon!
Looking forward to a great show as the standard of work on display here is always very high.
I must try to resist spending all my takings!
It's a bit stormy in Worcester so I'm taking my wellies just in case.....
The Fold studio will be closed today & tomorrow
but OPEN Fri 11th & Sat 12th as usual 10am - 5pm.

Yesterday was great fun as I had fellow designer makers Sarah Walker & Jo Dewar over to my studio at The Fold to share an exchange of creative ideas. Sarah had suggested the idea earlier in the year & we finally got a date sorted!

I gave a demonstration of some of the techniques I use in my metalwork including, hammering, texturing, doming, heating colouring & soldering then let them have a go with my tools to see what they could create?

I think you will agree that the results are very professional!

Jo's detailed small wall hanging

Sarah's lovely flower panel brooch

I am looking forward to the next 'creative play' day next month with Jo.

Clay Barn Exhibition

'Material made Magic'

4 - 7 June 2010

Open 10am - 5pm

We have just returned from visiting the latest exhibition held at Clay Barn by ceramicist Louise Darby. I have shown my work there in the past & will be showing once again this November.

Louise invites other artists to join her at her fabulous studio & home at Redhill near Alcester in Warkwickshire. This time she had Jenny Crisp's willow, Anna de Ville's jewellery, Linda Millers embroidery, Helen Nock's furniture, Ray Key (fellow WGDC member) with his elegant wooden pieces alongside the fine ceramics & inspirational photography of Louise's own work.

If you haven't been along to Clay Barn before it is well worth a visit. The garden is beautiful & the homemade nibbles are divine! I'm looking forward to November!

More information on Louise's work & exhibitions can be found at
