What is a Mother?

Another find on Monday was this sweet little book called 'What is a Mother' published in 1968 (the year I was born!). It's a compilation of quotes from children about what a mother is...but it was the illustrations by Lisl Weil that caught my eye.
These are a selection of my favourites:

Woven textures

Had a little mooch around the charity shops in Pershore on Monday while the air con was being fixed in Tim's car. Found these lovely woven 'platters' which I thought had potential? They look African in origin? I was a little concerned that the cats might think they were new scratching posts but so far so good.....

Christening commission

This is a commission piece as a christening present I have recently completed for a little girl called Ava. It's made from copper & brass with etched fairy motifs, stamped & punched decoration & given a lacquer coating to bring out the colours. Hopefully it will be something that Ava will enjoy in her room for many years to come?
I've made several of these type of wall plaques for various occasions but Christenings or births seem the most popular.

Teasels

Before cooling with the daisies I climbed the 'mountain of Bransford' (don't ask!!) & collected some beautiful teasels...I hadn't noticed them before but against the fantastic blue sky they really stood out today. I think they will look great in my 1970s German ceramic retro vases at home - if the cats don't think they are a new toy?

Daisies

Just went for a cool down in the shade of Wholehealth's garden here at The Fold....

Football commissions

Not being the slightest bit interested in football myself I approached this commission with some trepidation! However I am really pleased with the finished brooches although I would not rush to make another Liverpool design as it was a lot of saw piercing....not helped by the very hot studio yesterday!

Court Leet Studio

Another thing we did on Sunday was visit the studio of Rachel Higgins & James Fotheringhame in Warwickshire. What a fabulous studio!! They work from a spacious barn conversion in Long Marston. It was really interesting to see the workspace of another metal worker...some similarities with mine...lots of scraps of metal in buckets!
We are lucky enough to own one of Rachel's sculptures - a wren which sits on our mantelpiece. I would love to add another piece...there was a lovely little shrew on display & a robin which features on the invite for their forthcoming exhibition at Jam in Eaton. www.jam-eton.co.uk

I know Rachel & James are planning another open studio event in November....perhaps funds might allow by then!??

Seedlings!

Things are growing at last!

Bluebell heaven

Every year as I drive through Drakes Broughton in Worcestershire I notice through the hedgerows glimpses of a blue haze from the bluebells. I've never managed to stop before when I've had a camera with me but on Sunday I finally did!
Amazing blue as far as I could see....the scent was fabulous too. I didn't like to venture too far as I wasn't sure if I was on private land!!!

LATEST BLOCK PICTURES

The most recent oxidised bronzed finish copper & brass metalwork block pictures
will be on display at Cheltenham Art Market tomorrow.

Charm bracelets

I recently had a commission for a flowery bracelet.

This prompted me into making some more of the charm bracelets which I had not thought of producing for a while.....

Farm animals!

These can be made using any of the motifs in my jewellery range: birds, hearts & stars, flowers or animals. I have designed particular 'charms' for zodiac signs or initials for commissions. Sorry the photos are not so great...I really must invest in a light box of some sort?

Malvern Spring Garden Show display

Just a couple of shots of the stand at the Spring Garden event in Malvern.
I was sharing the space with Penny Williams who makes the copper & brass clocks on display along with her cat, dog & chicken jewellery.
I looks very busy as the space was quite small! The stands are supplied by the Worcestershire Guild of Designer Craftsmen & look very smart.
I think we may have enough stock for the next show!!!?
Although I did sell the large triple panel which was very exciting.
