Scratchy Dogs!

I had another 'Creative Play' day today with friends Jo Dewar & Sarah Walker. We'd planned to do some lino printing but unfortunately I had a cufflink commission to complete so I only had a short time this afternoon.

This is my sad little effort... Scratchy Dog!

NEW Leafy card designs

After all the leafy metalwork I've been doing I thought I'd make a range of greetings cards to compliment.....

I've kept the designs simple in black & white reminiscent of the etching artwork I did for the metal leaf pieces.

Acorn cups

On Sunday I finally got around to doing something with the cute acorn cups I had collected from friend Rachelle's garden back in October! I was inspired by a picture she had made from lots of the little cups framed together....so I set about creating my own using some wood glue & an ikea box frame! A bit of a fiddle but I love the way each one has it's own variation in size & colour. Groups of items always appeal to me...I've made shell versions in the past & it's a good excuse to go out collecting bits & pieces for future collages.

Year of the Rabbit

As it's Chinese New Year & 2011 is the year of the Rabbit I thought I'd make some bunnies!
I made these 2 first but decided the faces needed to be slightly longer so the next one is the version I shall make if they prove popular.

After having look brief look at Chinese horoscopes...I discovered that being a Monkey (!) I am suited to a career as a jeweller either that or a air traffic controller!!!!

Love Cats!

Yesterday I made some 'Love Cats' just right for Valentine's Day...
although cats are popular all year round of course!
Made in copper & brass, each one is individually created so they all have their own character. Available from my studio (first outside event not until March!)
18cm x 10cm

14cm x 6cm

LATEST LEAF WALL PIECES

These are my lastest larger metalwork wall pieces which I've made since Christmas. The copper & brass is working well with the leaf motifs. They are taking alot of heating to solder them so I may need to get a larger nozzle for my blow torch? I'm getting rather red in the face, blasting the heat, as the copper rod draws the heat away from the area I am trying to solder!

50cm x 80cm

The etching is highlighted by the patina
55cm x 66cm
90cm x 80cm approx
I think this is as large as I can go at the moment due to my work bench area being restricted

RETRO CAT FABRIC

We went to the Malvern Flea market on Sunday...

Unusually we didn't buy much! I did however find this groovy 70's (?) piece of cat fabric!

It's only a small piece so I don't think I'll be able to make much from it...I think I'll cut out the cat motifs & applique (!! sewing???) them onto a backing fabric maybe?

When we were insulating the attic a while ago this fab flowery wallpaper was discovered....
I had to keep a little bit of history.
