Hookshouse Exhibition

Mixed exhibitions are held at Hookshouse in May and October.
They usually include the work of three or four painters, printmakers or photographers, and four or five craft makers, who may be working in leather, wood, metal, glass, textiles or clay. Each exhibition includes two or three 'new' exhibitors, and has a different 'feel' from the one before.
Next exhibition – The Art of Making – Sat 22nd to Sun 30th October
Our autumn exhibition this year has a good crop of new exhibitors, as well as some old favourites!
The newcomers’ section includes watercolours, often with additions of aquapasto, charcoal and chalk, from Mick Williamson, and Julia Leyden’s semi-abstract mixed media landscapes. We also have for the first time a collection of prints from illustrator Shelly Perkins, including a group of very appealing Cotswold townscapes. Our encore painter is Anna Birley, but even here we have variety for you, as the work she will be bringing us has taken a new direction since we last showed her here.
New craftspeople are Kim Mylchreest, whose glass will beautifully brighten up our autumn days, and woodworker/furniture maker Graham Ikin, bringing us examples of his finely executed original designs. We are also pleased to be able to show again some of Sarah Beadsmoore’s woven textiles, with their timeless appeal, and Sue Conway’s fine hand stitched leather bags and belts. And to complete the show we have a return visit by Sharon McSwiney and Penny Williams, whose metalwork creations range from quirky jewellery to clocks and decorative hangings.

School project

I've just completed the assembly of the wonderful pieces made earlier this week at Northleigh Primary School in Malvern.  On Monday I met up with 3 classes from Year 5/6 to give an introduction to myself & my work.  I then got the pupils doing some drawing for ideas to translate into metal the next day.

These are some examples:

On Tuesday we spent the lesson creating some interesting copper wire pieces:

I have now linked these pieces together & combined with some of my leafy etched work.  These will form 2 large wall hangings to go on permanent display in the sports/assembly hall at the school.  I am going to deliver these on Monday so will take some more pictures!
