Building up stock for the 20+ shows I have booked this year....

*NEW* Metalwork greetings card designs

It's always exciting when you receive the first batch of new etching!
I've just made up the latest designs into metalwork greetings cards...
The images have worked very well as jewellery so I thought I would transfer them into etched brass card motifs too.  I think the small scale of the metalwork pieces makes them more precious...ideal to frame individually or in sets of 3 maybe?

Garden Sticks

I didn't think I would get much done today...often the case when you've had a few days away!
However quite pleased as I've managed to make 22 garden sticks this afternoon!
Ideal prezzies for Mother's Day.....

Creative Play: Bryony Burn workshop

Today I've had great fun with ceramist Bryony Burn in her lovely Herefordshire studio.  I stock a little of her work in my shop so it was a great opportunity to gain an insight into how the work is made.

Firstly we had a little go on some test pieces, mark making using an assortment
of tools & cutters...

Then explored applying the coloured slips...

After rolling out the clay - creating lots of patterns!

It's really enjoyable to work with a soft material for a change instead of resistant metals, although some of the repeated patterns are similar to those I apply to my copper & brass wall pieces.
Next came the coloured slips, I've used grey, white & black..& maybe some yellow!?
I can't remember so it will be a surprise!
After cutting to size the 'platter' was placed into a bowl to create the form
& will be left to dry before firing.  All of the spare pieces have also be used:
Either for a wall hanging or I might frame the discs?

After lunch we moved onto a different method of working: slab building. (Forms inspired by Bryony's work of course!)
After applying the coloured slips again (orange & grey this time)
I then scratched through to further decorate the bird designs.  I've put different images on both sides of the pots & the opposite colour slip inside each one.
When fired the base will be white.
I should get the pieces back in about a months time so will post the finished results.  Bryony often runs workshops & classes so check out her website for future dates - I'd really recommend the day (fab lunch included too!) & would be tempted to take part again.
