'A Cat May Look at a Queen exhibition' Nancy Pickard

We really enjoyed visiting the exhibition 'A Cat May Look at a Queen' yesterday at New Brewery Arts in Cirencester.  The work was by Nancy Pickard who also hosted the workshop we attended.

A mixed media show by Nancy Pickard

Sat 19 Jan – Sat 16 Mar

Free admission

Proverbs and parables are retold and re-represented in this new and enthralling solo exhibition.

Nancy Pickard is an all-round artist who cannot be categorised - painter, artist, jewellery maker, sculptor, ceramicist - her work straddles the divide between craft and art. Come and explore the rich cultural images and metaphors imbedded within textural panel paintings and ceramic sculptures and be inspired by Nancy’s interpretations of modern and ancient wisdoms from around the globe.

So tempted by this piece...
'Strange Cat'
It reads:
You will always be lucky if you know how to make friends with strange cats
(Spanish proverb)

...Just what Tim & I do where ever we go!!

A horse is worth more than riches
(Spanish proverb)

Two Heads

Another one we would have liked to take home...
'Happy is the Home with a least one cat'
(Spanish proverb)
How very true!!!  or maybe 5 cats....

I love the expressions on the faces of these ceramic pieces!

There is still time to visit the exhibition as it continues until 16th March - go & have a look if you can.  Brewery Arts is a great place to spend a little time with a fab craft gallery, working studios & great cafe too.

Nancy Pickard Workshop day

Yesterday was a 'creative play day' at Brewery Arts in Cirencester with artist Nancy Pickard.  She currently has a fab exhibition on there called 'A Cat May Look at A Queen' (see next post).  This workshop was to create a garden wind chime using copper & found objects.  My main interest was the enameling aspect which Nancy incorporates into her jewellery pieces.  Having had limited experience with enamel before this was a great opportunity to use the technique on my pieces as I had taken some of my etched copper leaves to use on my wind chime.

The morning was spent selecting & preparing components to include....

Tim working hard....

Starting to emamel pieces...

The completed piece....

I actually like the effect of the pieces being more in a line...
I might adapt my wind chime into more of a wall hanging!?

Tim's finished piece & details of the enamel on leaves

Other participants finishing some interesting pieces too!
