The end of a YELLOW month....

September is now coming to an end & so is the end of my first 'colour' month.
It's been fun spotting the colour & deciding what to photograph. You really start to focus & notice all sorts of things!  I shall now use the images in my sketch book while I start on the next colour theme for October...

This evening primrose has sprung up next to our garden wall...

Week 3 of YELLOW

The weeks keep whizzing by....
this is the 3rd week of my yellow project:

My favourite image of this week is the feather...the other side is a lovely turquoise blue, not sure where I found it or what type of parrot it came from!?  I also rather like the IKEA battery collection...waiting to be recycled.

Painting with Collage

Today was my first visit to the St Ives School of Painting, Porthmeor Studios.  I had booked to take part in a short course 'Painting with Collage' held by artist Liz Luckwell. The session was to look at the work of Sandra Blow for inspiration. Images of her colourful collages were the starting point....
We each chose a picture from the selection provided by Liz & were instructed to draw out 6 squares in pencil on an A4 sheet.  From this point we drew a section from our chosen image, in the next square we had to slightly alter our first image & so on into each square.

After this had been done we started to introduce colour....using one at a time & filling one area on each square with that colour.

My completed colour sketches.

From this point we started to look at collage....Liz had provided a rainbow of coloured papers for us to use, the majority of which she had painted with a wash of colour - adding interesting textures.  I chose similar colours to my first paintings but wanted to introduce the grey/blue as well..

Using my sketches as inspiration I built up layers of colour....

Almost finished...

Examples of the other students work & my piece (needs a little trimming but I rather like it!)

I couldn't resist taking some photographs of the fantastic table tops in the studio...layers & layers of paint over the years have created beautiful surfaces....

Lots of inspiration surrounded us in this amazing space...

I will definitely be looking at the programme to see what other courses I can take part in this year or next...

Yellow.....the past 7 days

I am continuing to enjoy my 'yellow' month...it doesn't seem difficult to find something everyday although with the leaves changing there may be some slight repeats???

We started the second week with Tim's birthday celebrations...hence the balloons & flower candle.  The leaves appear in our garden courtesy of Pushka ( not sure where she finds them?). The vintage buttons were from my gran's button tin which provided hours of amusement when I was little....Fruit - several yellow options there & cute egg cups which actually don't function very well as egg cups but look pretty!

Barbara Hepworth Garden talk...

This morning I enjoyed a talk at the Barbara Hepworth Museum by the head gardener organised by The Tate Gallery.  The weather was fabulous; creating dappled shade & interesting highlights on the foliage.  Rather than focusing on the sculptures (like on my last visit earlier this summer) I really switched to the plants this time....I'd missed the agapanthus blooms but the Japanese anemones were stunning in the sunshine.  A few of the leaves were starting to turn a shade of yellow (very fitting for my project!) but a lot of the shrubs are evergreen.

It was great to learn some top tips about gardening near the sea & to view the garden on such a lovely morning.
