Having visited the Sandra Blow exhibition at the Exchange in Penzance back in August I was pleased to be able to visit her studio in St Ives today. This tour was part of the events during the September Festival happening at the moment but tours can be booked at other times by emailing the Sandra Blow estate....
The talk was really informative with several people attending actually having know Sandra Blow during her time in St Ives. It was fantastic to see where the vast canvases were created & also to learn how they were got out of the building!
The courtyard is not visible from the road as there are sturdy wooden doors enclosing the buildings behind. A modern construction takes up the larger area which was the working studio space. (These pictures are from my phone so not the best quality)
Ticking was used on this piece...note the cushion near by! I love the simplicity of this & subtle colouring
I was lucky enough to be able to try on a jacket belonging to Sandra Blow designed by Vivienne Westwood....she had some very stylish clothes!
Pieces waiting for collage...
Part of the old studio door at Porthmeor Studios before the renovation..
These pictures were taken of a rolled up piece of plastic at the back of the studio...obviously used many times with lots of layers of colour!
