New block pictures....

Finished some block pictures today...
I have been using some of the new etching.
The oak sets of the copper & brass nicely.

The leafy designs continue to be popular with customers....I think the colours work so well being reminiscent of the real leaves! These blocks are slightly smaller than usual but look nice in a set of three pictures.

First pieces with new etching

I couldn't resist making something from the new etching today...I already had the t-lights waiting so it was just a case of heating & colouring the etching! The lighthouse is based on the local Godrevy Lighthouse...I think having the candle above is quite appropriate!

I also finished some of the 'Block of Seagulls'...mounted on oak this time rather than the painted wooden block.

Etching arrives....

I excitedly unwrapped a very large box from the etching company yesterday...it is always a little nerve wracking to see the first batch just incase you got the artwork wrong! Thankfully all of the designs have come out well & I'm really looking forward to getting started on making some new pieces with this batch of metalwork....

All the pieces are now sorted ready to start....

Metalwork Wall Piece Workshop

Saturday was the first full day workshop I've held at Barnoon Workshop here in St Ives.  I only had 3 taking part due to an unfortunate cancellation for family reasons, however this meant I could give lots of attention to each of the 'students'.

We started the day with an introduction to me & my work, a run through of the tools & materials then a quick demo of some of the techniques.  The first stage of the workshop was about mark making on the metal surfaces...working on a small scale to get used to the tools & the metal. We used hammers, punches & wire to create textures on the copper & brass surfaces.

After a soldering demonstration we started to explore what designs to progress with in the afternoon...as Jo had been on a previous taster workshop before she already had in mind to make a mermaid. I think you will agree the results are pretty impressive & the feedback was very positive.

 Creating textures....

Heating the metal for colour effects...

Using a template to mark out the designs...

A 'U' shape letter punch made a great scale pattern...

Flux was applied for decorative effect

Soldering the fish....

I shall be running this workshop again on 30th August so please contact me if you would like to come along!  The next workshop I'm holding is on 9th August & is an introduction to jewellery making both workshops at the Barnoon venue.
