Sue Dove Day...

Yesterday I had the most fabulous day with artist Sue Dove.  This was a birthday present from Tim as a one to one workshop experience! I wanted to save it until after the Christmas madness was over & to have something to look forward in the new year.  I had not met Sue properly before & it was great to chat while creating throughout the day.  Her studio space is certainly an inspiration! With textile pieces, quirky artworks, books, photographs, knitted things & a huge array of materials available - if only I had so much space in my studio.....Sue is running a workshop in Bath which sounds similar to some of the techniques we did yesterday if you are tempted to have a go yourself???

We started by selecting pages from glossy magazines looking for interesting colour & texture...then ripping (rather than cutting) shapes out & using pva to glue them down to background papers. When dry we applied oil pastels to the surrounding areas - I've not really used oil pastels before & am now a convert! (Ordered a lovely inexpensive set on Amazon this morning Pastel do a set of 50 colours)The colours I have used on this are very reminiscent of my metalwork...

Next stage was to cut the piece into sections this creates more interested designs which are often not planned on the original artwork!

A different colour palette this time....

After a brief pause for lunch it was time to work on a slighter larger piece & of course I had to do a cat! Still need to complete the background...going to use some of the mono-printed tissue sheets to create further texture & maybe add a bird/some flowers?? I will post a picture on here when it's finished.

My larger collage piece which I intend to cut up in sections for sketchbook work...

Some of the mono-printed sheets for future use....

I think this cat was the inspiration for my collage piece!

Below are some photos of Sue's amazing creative space certainly a feast for the eyes:

Delicious sketchbooks!
